Set off on an ancient wonder - a sturdy, wooden tropical junk,
named the Fairwind. These were the Chinese Junks that
were used by our forefathers to venture into this part of
the world. In the old days, with the traditional sails, powered
only by the wind, they would sail out with the Northeast monsoon
carrying cargoes from China and only return with the Southeast
monsoon with produces from SE Asia. A great way to get the
sense of history and merchant adventuring that have made our
waterways vital cross-roads of present day international trade.
We make our way through the many sea-going
vessels that converge in the harbour. Singapore's harbour
is a colourful caper with bum boats and lighters, tongkangs
and elegant liners and scruffy coasters, mammoth oil tankers
and pitiful sampan. You will discover that there is more to
Singapore than meets the eye.
