The Peranakan Legacy showcases the rich material heritage of
the Peranakans from the Straits Settlements and the Indonesian
Archipelago.
Orchid is one of the popular floral mortif used in Peranakan
clothings and accessories. We will begin our tour to The National
Orchid Garden, provides a setting for 60,000 orchid plants
comprising 400 species and more than 2,000 hybrids orchid plants
on display.
Then a visit to Asian Civilisation Museum at Armenian
Street, which boast one of the finest collections of Peranakan
exhibits in South East Asia. Visitors will find dedicated
displays of the textile, beading, silverwork, porcelain, betel-chewing
and jewellery traditions of the Peranakans. Among the highlights
will be a display of the museum's renowned batik, embroidery
and beadwork collections and a chance to view exquisite silver
and porcelain pieces from the holdings of the Mariette Collection;
a major collection of Peranakan art being exhibited together
here for the first time.
Peranakan food is the closest Singapore has to an
indigenous cuisine combining Chinese, Malay and other influences
into its own unique blend. Experience a delightful Peranakan
lunch at the Blue Ginger Restaurant, nestled in the
heart of Tanjong Pagar, amidst a row of quaint shophouses.
After lunch, we proceed to Holland Village, a popular
haunt that offers small boutiques, niche stores and home furnishing
of Asian and the Peranakans
