SINGAPORE HERITAGE TOUR

KAYA TOAST BREAKFAST
Kaya, or coconut jam, is prepared with eggs, coconut milk and perfumed with pandan leave (or screwpine leaves). This typical Singapore-style breakfast (a scrumptious wafer-thin sandwiched with slabs of thick homemade kaya and melting chunks of butter ) is still being prepared the old fashion way - toasting the soft brown bread over the charcoal grill and scraping off the burnt surface with a knife before slapping on the kaya and butter. There is also coffee in old
fashioned cups with deep saucers and soft-boiled eggs

WALKING TOUR OF CHINATOWN
Our first stop - the majestic Sri Mariamman Temple - built in 1827 and declared a national monument in 1973. It is the oldest and most important of Singapore's Hindu temples, dedicated to the goddess Mariamman who is known for curing extremely serious epidemics such as cholera, chicken pox and small pox.

Next, catch a glimpse of real life of Singapore at a local "wet market". Learn a trick or 2 about haggling being the order of a day in these places, and see housewives hone their bargaining skills as they scout for the best and freshest produce to put on their dining tables.

CHINATOWN HERITAGE CENTRE
The Chinatown Heritage Centre (CHC) is a joint project between the Singapore Tourism Board and the National Heritage Board. Located in three newly restored shophouses along Pagoda Street, the Chinatown Heritage Centre houses a wealth of memories and untold stories from the past

Each level of the Centre takes you to a different time in the history of Chinatown and allows you to trace the lives of these early settlers. Learn about the rich cultural history of old Chinatown and end your journey with a first-hand experience of living in the dark and cramped quarters of a typical Chinatown.

CHINESE DIM SUM LUNCH

Dim sum literally meaning "a little bit of heart" consists of a variety of dumplings, steamed dishes and other goodies such as the famous egg custard tarts. They are similar to hors d'oeuvres, the hot and cold delicacies served at French restaurants.
