Meritus Mandarin Hotel
After months of mystery, the hoardings on Level 5 of Meritus Mandarin Singapore have finally been removed. In place is a treasure trove of all things new waiting to be explored. Regarded as the heart of the hotel, the completion of the refurbishment on Level 5 marks a significant milestone.
In November 2008, Meritus Mandarin Singapore embarked on an extensive multi-phased, multi-million dollar renovation plan to enhance guest experience and take its brand of Asian hospitality to new heights. This marked the second time in the hotel’s 38-year history that it would undergo major changes to keep up with existing trends and remain relevant to its guests. At the same time, it would ensure that the hotel would remain at the forefront of hospitality standards.
To bring the ambitious project to fruition, the hotel hired DP Architects to execute the project. DP Architect’s design brief was to create an elegantly restrained environment that would provide business travelers with a residential feel while preserving the hotel’s beloved Asian grace, warmth and care.
Among the many changes initiated were the relocation of its driveway in November 2008 to Orchard Link, which faces the side of Ngee Ann City; the shifting of the hotel entrance to Level 1 of the Main Tower; and the renovation of Act 1 to convert into a function space known as Mandarin Court, on Level 35 of the Orchard Wing.
But the most significant changes can be seen on Level 5. Exit the lifts and be greeted by floor-to-ceiling windows dressed up with a lattice screen that provides a peek-a-boo view to the new-form outdoor swimming pool.
In the main lobby, shifted up from Level 1, be awed by a stunning artwork of a Chinese landscape that suspends from the ceiling. Designed entirely by Singaporean-based artist, Suzann Victor, it is made from different coloured crystals strung together.
Set opposite the check-in and Concierge counters is a delectable spread of four food and beverage outlets. Chatterbox, home of the legendary Mandarin Chicken Rice, serves Asian delights and Western favourites all day long. Triple Three is for those who revel in international buffet spreads. Coffee & Crust will tempt with its cakes, pastries and Italian coffee from illy. Bar on 5 is the perfect chill-out spot offering a vantage view of Orchard Road.
Completing the heart of Meritus Mandarin is the 2,572sqft function room, Mandarin Suite. Able to accommodate up to a maximum of 140 people in a theatre-style configuration, it is suitable for cosy corporate and social events.
