WINE AND DINE AT ROCHESTER PARK
Up-and-coming
darling on the dining and lifestyle retail scene, Rochester
Park is unique heritage area featuring whitewashed colonial
houses earmarked for development into a new F&B and lifestyle
precinct complete with galleries, studios, spas and specialty
retail shops.
Set against
rustic backdrop of undulating grounds and tree-lined paths
and green canopies, Rochester Park looks like one of the hottest
dining and lifestyle spots this side of town. The precinct
is scheduled for completion later this year, but eager beavers
can whet their appetites at the currently open One Rochester,
a charming wine watering hole and North Border Bar and Grill,
Da Paolo's seventh Italian outlet and Min Jiang Sichuan Restaurant
of Goodwood Park Hotel fame. Definitely worth checking out
too is Graze, who won't be in a hurry to clear your table
when you're done with the nosh. Like its name suggests, Graze
expects you to hang out, take in its grassy lawns and airy
ambience, and dig into its offerings of Asian and Western
cuisine. There's even a 'grazing menu' for small eaters who
like a variety of dishes
AT GREENWOOD AVENUE
Stylish
dining options in a spot just far enough from the madding
crowd, but near enough to afford you ample after-dinner options.
The lush interiors and cosy ambience of the stretch of eateries
here are just about as impressive as the mouth-watering victuals
that fill their menus.
You'll
get a variety of posh nosh to pick from here ranging from
French fare and juicy steaks at Coq 'N' Bull rotisserie or
fresh Japanese at Raku. Meanwhile, new kid on the block 8
is making the news for its different dining concept. The stylish
joint offers a degustation menu ($28) comprising 12 tasting
size dishes (including battered shiitake mushroom with ginger
and garlic, minced meat and salted fish patty and tofu with
sweet ginger marinade) and additional wine pairing ($18) made
up of three wines.
MINISTRY
OF SOUND
For years,
it was rife around the dance hip circles that London cult
dance club would be opening in Singapore. It finally has,
and last December, dance fiends welcomed the biggest MoS club
in the world (rivaling the ones in London, Denmark and Australia)
last December. Standing proud at a whopping 40,000sq ft with
two-levels and filled with avant-garde audio and a visual
effect system, the club pumps each night with eclectic beats
and grooves. And when there are different rooms within tailored
to fit various musical genres (progressive house, funky beats,
electro, hip-hop/R&B, disco and soulful house), a tour
of world-famous institution is definitely in order.

the embodiment of heritage chic. The clever blend of
history and modernity in terms of decor, furnishings
and amenities promises a fascinating stay for tourists
and locals alike. Standard room rates start at $180,

Loft

Stars
of Tourism Industry Honoured at 20th Tourism Awards
Singapore,
2 March 2006
 |
|
The
Singapore Tourism Board (STB) honoured 45 outstanding
individuals and organisations that made significant contributions
in enhancing Singapore's image as a premier destination
at the prestigious 20th Tourism Awards.
Held
at the Esplanade Concert Hall, the Tourism Awards presentation
ceremony was graced by the President of Singapore, His
Excellency S R Nathan, and Mrs Nathan. Over 1,400 guests
from various tourism-related industries, ranging from
education to retail, attended the glamorous event.
|
Mr
Simon Israel, Chairman of STB, lauded the efforts of all
finalists and winners in helping to raise service standards
in Singapore. He said, "The winners and finalists
of the 20th Tourism Awards have all demonstrated their
unique ability to add that extra touch in creating unique
experiences and distinctive service elements for our visitors.
It is this spirit of innovation and the willingness to
go the extra mile that ensures Singapore remains attractive
as a destination."
Now
into its 20th year, the Tourism Awards, seen as the
"Oscars" of the industry, has evolved to keep
pace with the changing tourism landscape. Mr Israel
said, "As Singapore faces an increasingly competitive
tourism landscape, it is important for the industry
to continue to place greater emphasis on innovation,
creativity and experiential factors."
From
a tourist-and-travel-centric recognition programme,
the Tourism Awards now covers the full spectrum of service
industries related to tourism, namely hotel (or hospitality?),
