CULTURAL
& HERITAGE

MALACCA
~ One of Malaysia's two historic gems.
Located on the strait that bears its name, Malacca was
once a rich, cosmopolitan port city. Its wealth and
influence may be a bygone era but the old city's colourful
history is set to enthrall you.

Although
the historical sights are not stunning architectural wonders,
they are very interesting as it reflects strongly the Dutch
and Portuguese influence. What you will find most intriguing
is the heritage of the Straits Chinese community (popularly
known as Peranakans). They are a unique society that combines
the best of Chinese and Malay cultures, through inter-marriages.

IPOH
~ once a thriving centre for tin mining and rubber trading,
the town of Ipoh moves at a slower space these days.
Colonial architecture, majestic limestone caves and
good food are just some of the reasons to visit.
This
historic town, that manifests a strong Chinese culture,
is the capital of the state of Perak. It found its fortunes
in the 1890s with the discovery of the world's richest
deposits of tin. Take in the sights of its impressive
network of limestone caves and be captivated by the
ornately decorated Buddhist Temple (Perak Tong) which
is built into the side of one of its limestone caves
and has been in existence for almost a century.

CITY
EXCITEMENT
KUALA LUMPUR
Popularly known as 'KL' to locals and foreigners
alike, this vibrant cosmopolitan city is the capital of Malaysia.
While the city's bustling streets, modern office towers and
infinite quest for progress symbolize Malaysia's unhesitating
leap into the future, its history and heritage is present
in some of the British colonial buildings and Chinese shop-houses.
These buildings linger on against the contemporary backdrop
of modern Kuala Lumpur; and they reflect an intriguing history
that evokes memories of a bygone era.
Kuala
Lumpur has the most upbeat nightlife scene in Malaysia. Dining,
clubbing and entertainment venues are virtually around every
street corner. With shopping malls dotted all around the city,
you will be spoilt for choices.
